National Excavation Project at Ayodhya

Kerala, a state known for its backwaters and greenery, is also a pool of ancient history. Right in the middle of this southern paradise lay Cherumanakad, a site that would soon turn-out to be the hub of a groundbreaking excavation in archaeology. The year was 1989, and KK Muhammed, a seasoned archaeologist with many successful excavations to his credit, was at the wheel.

Excavation at Atranjikhera

1978-1980

The sands of time had settled gently upon a small village called Atranjikhera in Uttar Pradesh, covering up secrets that spanned millennia. It was in the summer of 1978 that a team of archaeologists, led by the unbeatable KK Muhammed, arrived to crack this mysterious tapestry. Carefully, the topsoil was removed, inch by inch, and excavation began. Every layer they went down into the past brought a new chapter of the region's history to light.

Fetehpur Sikri | Excavation Supervisor

One such location was the Fatehpur Sikri, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its told and untold stories lying beneath the iconic structures. Initiated in 1978 and carried through 1987, this gigantic archaeological undertaking was led by the site supervisor KK Muhammad. Nine years of dedicated excavation and documentation transformed our understanding of this iconic city, every season filled with challenges and exciting discoveries.

Sidhpur

1985-1986

Where the Land of God has so many to talk about their history, KK Muhammad rose as the discoverer. He had been given charge of the excavation at Sidhpur during the very crucial years in 1985 and 1986. It was an all-important dig into the past, a labor of love for establishing connection between the present and the past. His work stands to represent what archaeologists have been able to do in letting light into the shadows of history.

St. Augustine Church

1991-1996

For a span of five crucial years, from 1991 to 1996, KK Muhammad served as the guiding force behind the restoration of St. Augustine Church in Goa. His expert hand transformed a deteriorating architectural gem into a resplendent symbol of faith and history. Through meticulous planning and execution, Muhammad breathed new life into the church, ensuring its legacy endures for generations to come.

Kesariya

1997-1999

Where history runs deep, the state of India's heartland was not left out of KK Muhammad's makings. Being the director of Kesariya excavation from 1997 to 1999, he undertook a journey that would bring to light, layer by layer, the hidden secrets of the ancient site, opening a new chapter in the story of Bihar. Muhammad led his team through an expedition into the lives of those who came before. Every artifact, be it delicate fragments of pottery or imposing remnants of structure, speaks to a piece of this mega puzzle.

Vaishali

KK Muhammad's name became identical to the rebirth of Vaishali. He took it upon himself as an excavation director between 1997 and 1999 to uncover forgotten glories. With every earth layer that he cleared off, a new saga in the rich history of Vaishali was unveiled. Brought back to life by his expertise and passion, the site began to speak to people from the erstwhile field of ruins as a living testament to the past.

Sarnath

Sarnath is one of the most hallowed sites in the Buddhist world, under the able care of KK Muhammad. Being an excursion director from 1997 to 1999, it became a task for him to dig deeper into the heart of this holy ground. With sheer gentleness and true passion, Muhammad led the team through layer upon layer of history. Under Muhammad's expert digging, Sarnath gave up all its secrets, a place steeped in spirituality and ancient wisdom.

Al – Balid

1998-1999

In the middle of the Omani desert, there was one story of collaboration between countries. KK Muhammad teamed with Aachen University in Germany and bravely started a project to excavate Al-Balid from 1998 to 1999. The ancient port city of this once-bustling metropolis of trade lay entombed under shifting layers of sand, waiting to release its secrets. The desert was an obstacle, but undaunted by all the odds, the team uncovered a buried past. Every layer that was brought to light flashed Al-Balid in vivid color.

Kattin Kara

As the Director overseeing the excavation from 2001 to 2002, KK Muhammad approached the site with both academic precision and a profound personal connection to the land’s history. Sirpur

Sirpur, a name that whispered of ancient grandeur, became a focal point for KK Muhammad’s passion for discovery. As Director of the excavation from 2003 to 2004, he embarked on a journey into the heart of Chhattisgarh, a region brimming with untold stories. With every layer of earth removed, a chapter of Sirpur’s history was unveiled. This once-thriving city, a melting pot of cultures, revealed its secrets through the artifacts unearthed.

Salimgarh

2009-2010

For centuries, Salimgarh Fort had been standing sentinel to Delhi's history, hiding secrets buried beneath the sands of time. In the year 2009, in the expert eyes of KK Muhammad, an expedition ventured into the very heart of this iconic monument. As director of Excavation, Muhammad would lead a team of dedicated archaeologists to unearth the layers that concealed the fort's past. It uncovered a wealth of history from remains of mundane life to the foundation of once grand structures.
